Understanding Skin Care: Determining Skin Type

Skincare is an art that requires you to know a little about your skin type. Not all skin types are the same and so are their needs. That’s why it’s important to understand your skin and choose a skincare routine that works for you. So let’s learn how to recognize my skin type and how to take care of it.

What are the different skin types?

Everyone has a different skin type, but by reading the spectrum of different skin types, you can determine where you fit best. The three main skin types are oily, dry and combination. But here we will also focus on other unusual skin types.

  1. Dry skin

Dry skin feels itchy or tight throughout the day. The main symptoms include scaling, itching, tension and tenderness. Dry skin needs constant hydration to compensate for water loss. Avoid harsh formulations or abrasive exfoliators. Instead, try gentle, non-abrasive ingredients that won’t disrupt your skin’s natural oils. A gentle face gel is highly recommended to hydrate dry, breakout-prone skin.

  1. Oily skin

Oily skin is when the sebaceous glands produce too much oil on the face. You probably use mattifying powders or blotting foils more often than usual. Even the makeup you apply seems to wash off within hours. The single best part about oily skin is that it looks soft and youthful because it has more natural moisture.

When taking care of oily skin, make sure to wash your day with a gentle cleanser. It helps draw out impurities and unclog pores while revealing a healthy glow. If you have oily skin, it’s also important to use a skin toner to balance your skin’s pH.

  1. Combination skin

If your skin shows a mixture of dry and oily, you probably have a combination skin type. It is excessively oily on the T-zone and dry on the rest of the facial canvas. You don’t have to have any acne on your cheeks because the skin in this area is well moisturized. Taking care of combination skin could be quite tricky. The best way to deal with this problem is to use a non-comedogenic facial cleanser or facial moisturizer with a gel consistency.

  1. Sensitive skin

Many people can have sensitive skin that is quite challenging to take care of. It requires consistent TLC and a specialized routine to avoid irritation or inflammation. Use only one formulation at a time to make caring for sensitive skin easier. Always test the product on your inner champion to minimize potential reactions on facial skin.

Skin care experts recommend avoiding chemicals or toxins such as sulfates, parabens, synthetic fragrances, mineral oils, phthalates, or mineral oils. It is much better to use safe and gentle facial care products or preparations that will not harm your skin.

  1. Mature skin

Like sensitive skin, mature skin can be oily, dry, or both. It is not a skin type, but a condition where the collagen and elastin that make up the skin are denatured with age. As a result, you may experience wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin. If you have sensitive skin, it’s important to focus on hydration and use anti-aging skin care products.
